WPS can provide site inspections either pre-arranged with yourself or unannounced to give an overview of your workplace and its safety precautions during a normal working day. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have greatly increased the number of Inspectors they have working for them in the UK and have introduced the ‘Fee for Intervention’ at a rate of £166 per hour. They have the power to enter your premises at any time with no warning; businesses found to be in material breach of Health and Safety law will be charged this rate from the discovery of any breach to the completion of the investigation.
Following an investigation a fine may be issued and although HSE fines of up to £20,000 are common, in cases of serious negligence, the fine can be unlimited.
This has serious implications for the future, potentially resulting in company insolvency and personal bankruptcy. It is not possible to insure yourself or your business against HSE fines, public liability and professional indemnity only cover civil suits, HSE prosecute through the criminal courts with a conviction rate of 93% (CPS data summary Quarter 4 2020-2021).
Whilst business owners would like to believe that the highest Health and Safety standards are maintained at all times, experience tells us that this is not always the case. WPS could help with providing a “mock” HSE visit at a pre-arranged cost to help you resolve any potential breaches before they become problematic. Priced individually for you, from £225 plus VAT.
These documents work together to ensure you are managing the risks within your workplace and its activities. A Risk Assessment is a systematic process of evaluating the potential risks within a premises or site, or in a projected activity or undertaking. A Method Statement is a document that details how to carry out work safely and efficiently, especially for high risk projects or tasks. It should include a detailed plan of the work, projected hazards, safety measures taken to address these hazards, First Aid procedures, required staff training, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required and work permits where necessary. Safe Systems of Work are procedures to eliminate or minimise risks involved in a specific operation. They should be customised to the specific work environment and tasks being performed.
Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, the minimum you must do is:
If you employ 5 or more people, you MUST record your significant findings. You must review the controls you have in place to make sure they are working. You should also review them if there are changes to staff, processes or substances/equipment used, or they may no longer be effective.
WPS can assist with the creation of these documents, prices are quoted on an individual basis. Contact us to discuss your business’ needs and we will put together a bespoke package for you.
Policies and procedures provide clarity and consistency, by communicating what people need to do and why. Policies can also communicate goals, values and a positive tone. Under British law, all employers are required to have in place an over-arching Health and Safety Policy. WPS can assist with the writing of your company’s Health and Safety policy and can also help with other policies, which may include but are not limited to:

Fire Risk Assessment (also known as a Fire Safety assessment) is a legal requirement that identifies the potential risks your premises has in the event of a fire and determines what you need to do to prevent fire as well as what you need to do if a fire occurs. All business premises need a Fire Risk Assessment. This includes all HMO (House in Multiple Occupation) rental properties which are not considered single private dwellings, and mixed use premises.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety Order) 2005, the Responsible Person/Duty Holder must carry out a Fire Risk Assessment, then implement and manage a Fire Management Plan. Failure to carry this out could result in a fine, imprisonment, or both.
It is recommended that Fire Risk Assessments are reviewed every 12 months following the original assessment, and a new one is carried out every 5 years or if the buildings purpose or layout is substantially changed.
If you do not have the time or skills within your team, then we can help you. As every business and building is different, we tailor our pricing individually but starting at £199 plus VAT.
Invoice payments for all services are strictly 30 days from the date of invoice.
48 hours cancellation of all appointments is necessary, any cancellations within this window will incur the full cost of the visit.
